In Ghana, the big political decision happening right now is the NPP’s national executive elections.
On Saturday, October 3, 2026, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) held its National Delegates Conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. Over 7,000 delegates voted to elect the party’s new national leadership (National Chairperson, General Secretary, Vice Chairpersons, Organiser, etc.).
This is a key internal election that will shape the party’s direction and organisation as it prepares for the 2028 general elections. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is already the party’s flagbearer for 2028 (he won the presidential primary earlier in 2026), so the new executives will work with him and the party structures going forward.
The chairmanship race was especially closely watched, with candidates including John Boadu, Sammy Crabbe, Paul Afoko, and Boakye Agyarko among the contenders.
National Chairman: John Boadu (former General Secretary) – won with nearly 50% of the votes.
• National Women’s Organiser: Hawa Koomson
• National Treasurer: Alfred Thompson
• National Youth Organiser: Abanga (Fuseini Yakubu Abanga)
• National Organiser: Titus Glover (Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover)
• Nasara Coordinator: Ali Suraj
The Electoral Commission supervised the polls. Full official tallies for all positions (including General Secretary and the three Vice Chairpersons) were still being collated and declared in the early hours of 4 October, but Boadu’s victory as National Chairman has been widely confirmed.
This new leadership team will work with flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the NPP reorganises for the 2028 general election.
